Let’s continue a little while with our study on WISDOM.
We are challenged to “get” WISDOM.
I am encouraged by the thought that WISDOM is:
Available to every child of God. You do not need a college education that qualifies you for a special bunch of letters behind your name. You do not need a fancy title to set you apart from the rest of the people.
I trust that our hearts will be enlarged and encouraged as we dig into this study and realize that the Lord has set His people apart and desires to fill them with His WISDOM.
But, you must seek His WISDOM and allow Him to fill you with it.
There are many scriptures that help us understand this teaching and I won’t put all of them here for you, but I will share a few with you. I can not over emphasis the encouragement to you that you begin to study this on your own. Bring back some of the wonderful thoughts that the Lord shows you and share them in the comments with the rest of us so that we can have some interaction on this subject.
Use the internet to help you in your study. Here is a good place for you to start: http://www.blueletterbible.org
As I listen to the news and try to gain an understanding about what is going on in the world I am more and more convinced that a good portion of the body of Christ is very satisfied with their own lives, ministries, entertainments, enjoying their own activities and are very much in a comatose state.
What is that you ask?
COMATOSE
adjective in a state of deep unconsciousness for a prolonged or indefinite period, esp. as a result of severe injury or illness: she had been comatose for seven months | lying in a comatose state.
(Please take note of this meaning) (of a person or thing) extremely exhausted, lethargic, or sleepy: the economy remains almost comatose.
The scripture talks about us this way:
Prov. 6:10,11
vs. 10 Yet, a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.
folding of the hands gives the idea of resting, relaxing and lying down. Being at ease.
vs. 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
The word for armed give the idea of a shield or buckler.
But this word seems to implies a smaller size
and extent than an armed man used of a thief.
(The meaning implied is that of a shield that is diminished
in size not able to protect all areas of our body.)
Consider the admonition to put on the whole armor of God)
This scripture shows someone who is suffering from a lack and seems unaware of it. He is my shield and my buckler. Ps. 7:11
HE THAT HATH AN EAR LET HIM HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT SAYETH TOTHE CHURCHES
I feel it is so important for us to be aroused and awakened as Watchmen on the Walls. Please never cease to ask the Lord for a great visitation of the Spirit of the Living God. There world knows plenty of dead Gods but you and I serve the Great and Mighty Living God.
2 Tim. 2:15,16
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
But shun profane and vain babblings:for they will increase unto more ungodliness
Read on in this portion of scripture and you get a good idea of the type of person the Lord wants you and I to be.
Okay, on to some scriptures about WISDOM
You will not become filled with WISDOM by much study, but the Lord wants us to study.
You will not be filled with WISDOM by doing good works, but the Lord wants us to do good works.
So, we must go to the scripture to get a good idea about WISDOM. We really need to see what Godly WISDOM looks like. That is the WISDOM we want. I have only scratched the surface of this study and am sure you will gain more insight as you continue with this study on your own.
There are many meanings to the word WISDOM and I will just whet your appetite with this one from James 3:15….wisdom, broad and full of intelligence; used of the knowledge of very diverse matters.
Now please read the rest of the scriptures here and enlarge your study on this word and help yourself begin to understand the wide scope of what the WISDOM is that the Lord desires us to possess. From there we will begin to get a greater understanding of how to obtain…get..this WISDOM.
JAMES 3:13: Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. (NOTE THE MEEKNESS OF WISDOM)
One of the definitions in Strongs that I think speaks volumes is the following one:
Who is a WISE man? In this portion the word is used to signify someone who is sagacious.
sagacious | adjective Having or showing keen mental discernment and good judgment; shrewd: they were sagacious enough to avoid any outright confrontation. Forming the best plans and using the best means for their execution.
James 3:13 ; and accordingly is a suitable person to settle private quarrels,
PLEASE TAKE OUT YOUR BIBLE AND READ THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURES AND THE NOTES I HAVE ADDED FOR YOU TO GIVE GREATER UNDERSTANDING.
1 Co. 6:5 speaking of wisdom
..wise in a philosophic sense, forming the best plans and using the best means for their execution: so of God Ro.16 27, and 1 Tim 1:17;Jude 25l intelligent contains more wisdom, is more sagaciously thought out.
1 Co. 1:25
It denotes one who can “put things together’ who has insight and comprehension..prudent, denotes primarily one who has quick and correct perceptions, hence ‘discreet’, circumspect’, etc.
Romans 16:19: For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf; but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
1 Cor. 1:20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? Hath not god made foolish the wisdom of this world.
1 Cor. 1 :25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God stronger than men.
1 Cor. 1:26 for ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
There are many other scriptures about WISDOM and we will probably search out more and discuss them from time to time.
There is the wisdom of the world and there is the WISDOM the the Lord desires His church to possess. Contrary to what many people may believe. It is not gained by your intellect.
Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
I am sure we would learn a lot about WISDOM from Job. He was a man full of the WISDOM of the Lord. So, I leave you today with this portion of scripture.
JOB. 28:11 But where shall wisdom be found?
and where is the place of understanding
Job. 28: 20-28
Whence then cometh wisdom?
and where is the place of understanding?
Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living,
and kept close from the fowls of the air.
Destruction and death say,
We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
God understandeth the way thereof,
and He knoweth the place thereof.
For He looketh to the ends of the earth,
and seeth under the whole heaven;
To make the weight for the winds;
and He weigheth the waters by measure.
When He made a decree for the rain,
and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
Then did He see it, and declare it;
He prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
And unto man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
and to depart from evil is understanding
