YE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Hello and welcome to another Bible Study!

I have had a long sabatical of my own making and think it is time to get myself going here again.

Our subject is never out of my mind and I know it is because the Lord wants me to become more permeated with His light.

During this study we have talked about both light and darkness.  Darkness is the absence of light….light will always dispel darkness.  He IS the light of the world.   We are His creation left here on this earth as a beacon for all to see.  His plan is for us to make a difference while we are here.  That is kind of a nut shell version of this entire study.   I am aware I am at the end of the foundational information and it has taken me months to try to decide how to bring this study to the point that I pray will lead all of us a little deeper into the position that He wants us to take.

My goal today is to stir up your pure mind to think about His Light and if I can, challenge you to get a very small peek at what His light will do for you and me and the rest of the world.

Let’s look at a portion of scripture that will enlighten us a bit.

From Vines Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words

Matt:5:14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Greek word Strongs #5457
From an obsolete phao

(to shine or make manifest, especially by rays, cf φαίνω (G5316), φημί(G5346)

Light, Noun, and Verb (Bring To, Give), Lighten:

akin to phao, “to give light” (from roots pha–, and phan–, expressing “light as seen by the eye,” and, metaphorically, as “reaching the mind,” whence phaino, “to make to appear,” phaneros, “evident,” etc.); cp. Eng., “phosphorus” (lit., “light-bearing”). ”

Primarily light is a luminous emanation, probably of force, from certain bodies, which enables the eye to discern form and color. Light requires an organ adapted for its reception (Mat 6:22). Where the eye is absent, or where it has become impaired from any cause, light is useless.

Man, naturally, is incapable of receiving spiritual light inasmuch as he lacks the capacity for spiritual things,1Cr 2:14.      But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Hence believers are called ‘sons of light,’ Luke 16:8b, not merely because they have received a revelation from God, but because in the New Birth they have received the spiritual capacity for it.

It is not a small thing when He says  Matt. 5:16

“Let your light so shine before men that they may see …………………
“Let your light so shine that they may see your good works…………….
“Let your light so shine that they may glorify your Father in heaven…………..

Apart from natural phenomena, light is used in Scripture of:

(a) the glory of God’s dwelling-place,1Ti 6:16;

(b) the nature of God, 1Jo 1:5;

(c) the impartiality of God, Jam 1:17;

(d) the favor of God, Psa 4:6; of the King,Pro 16:15; of an influential man, Job 29:24;

(e) God, as the illuminator of His people,Isa 60:19, 20;

(f) the Lord Jesus as the illuminator of men,Jhn 1:4, 5, 9; 3:19; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35, 36, 46;Act 13:47;

(g) the illuminating power of the Scriptures,Psa 119:105; and of the judgments and commandments of God, Isa 51:4; Pro 6:23, cp. Psa 43:3;

(h) the guidance of God, Job 29:3;Psa 112:4; Isa 58:10; and, ironically, of the guidance of man, Rom 2:19;

(i) salvation, 1Pe 2:9;

(j) righteousness, Rom 13:12; 2Cr 11:14,15; 1Jo 2:9, 10;

(k) witness for God, Mat 5:14, 16; Jhn 5:35;

(l) prosperity and general well-being,Est 8:16; Job 18:18; Isa 58:8-10.” *

My heart longs to see God’s church, those who love Him and are called by His Name, become more filled with His love and light so that we can make a difference in the world we live in.

He calls us to “Go and make disciples”.  But, I submit to us that we all need to be filled with His Light if we are to be successful in that call.

It’s not your outward appearance or your natural knowledge or even your knowledge of the Word that draws others, it is the love they feel and see coming from your countenance that draws them.  It is His love in you….Christ in you the hope of glory.

I was told of a recent conversation between a Christian and a young person during which they were asked why someone else became a Christian.  He was curious, needed a reason for the hope that was in the other young man.  He is trying to decide why a person would be serving the Lord.  He has not yet come to the place the jailer in the Bible came to when he asked the question “what must I do to be saved” he was told to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and he would be saved and so would his household. John 3:16 that many of us can quote and love says that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

He so loved. Floyd preaches a powerful message on the word so..it is an intense love. When I consider His love for me and that His desire is that I would be a reflection in this world of that love I am aware that I too need that so loved love in my being.

The only place to partake of that love is in sitting at His feet as Mary of old did. She chose the better place. Not the busy, busy, busy, make everything look perfect, make everyone comfortable but the place where she could partake and become filled with that so love and go out and pour that into others. She was, indeed, a reflection of Him and a strong beam of light to others both in her days on this earth and forever for all of us as we read the Word of God.

If you are going through a hard (dark) place in the natural let me encourage you to know that you can dispel that darkness.  It is not as difficult as you may feel — sit at His feet, take all your cares to Him, you are His child and He will not turn you away.

Fill yourself with His Word and His love and Oh, child of God, love Him.  Tell Him of your love for Him, sing to Him, Exalt Him, Magnify Him and make Him bigger than life’s troubles and cares.  He not only has the answer to all your needs He IS the answer.   Let Him fill you with His light.   It is like putting a fresh battery and bulb in a flashlight that has become dim .  You will be regenerated as you spend time with Him and then you will become His light to others and you will walk in victory knowing His presence in a new and exciting way.  It is not about us…it is about Him.  We are HIS light!

Blessings and love from Alice and Floyd Earlywine.
