Hi and thanks for coming by. I am sorry I have been slower getting this blog posted. Most of you know my wonderful husband, Floyd, has had some physical road bumps over the past week. Actually, I was sitting at the computer typing from my copious notes when the Dr.s nurse told him he must go to the ER now please she would feel so much better if he would. His doctor was out of town and she knew he would be giving the same advice. I am so glad he agreed and we dropped everything and off we went and didn’t come home for 3 days and 2 nights. Thanks for all of the prayers and love.
Now we will get back to the blog.

Please take time to sign up for the automatic notice of the blog posting. I had hoped to post every other Thursday, but circumstances have not allowed me to do that.

In the future I may be able to post more.

The forum is available for sharing and to be able to interact. I will answer all questions and include them in the dialog of this blog. Share your thoughts. We can all learn together in this way.

Okay, get your Bible, Coffee, paper and pen and let’s study together.

We are going to investigate the word “night” for a little while. I find myself tripping over this word “what” that I have been using so I am going to call it the “signs” of night. Before we enlarge on the word “signs” any more let’s talk a bit about night.

It is quite interesting when you dig into the word as an investigator. I don’t just want to know the meaning but why is it called that and are there some hidden nuances of the word. Looking for every hidden clue along with the ones that stare you in the face. That is the way I study.

The other thing I want you to keep in your thoughts is that first we see the natural and then we discern the spiritual. That and the fact that a phrase or thought given over and over means the Lord really wanted us to understand that particular thing and build on it throughout the Word. It really is a lot of fun. Some of you have sat in the Bible Studies I have been privileged to share in and know I like interaction and finding the thing that is to me a nugget.

Have you given some thought to the “what” of the night? Well, of course we all know the opposite of day is night, right? The sun doesn’t shine at night, we can’t see very far at night, etc. I was interested to see that although in the beginning when the Lord created day and night that he called the darkness “night”. The word “night” seemed to evolve over the centuries to encompass many other things. We will talk about some of those things in the future.

The Hebrew word used for night was Strongs..3915 layil lah’-yil or (Isa. 21:11) leyl {lale}; also laylah {lah’- yel-aw}; from the same as 3883; properly, a twist (away of the light), i.e. night; figuratively, adversity:–((mid-))night (season).

A twist away of the light….oh, I like that…but there is more….please give that definition some thought. Spiritually, why would there be a twisting away of the light. hmmmm!

3883 luwl lool from an unused root meaning to fold back; a spiral step:–winding stair. Compare 3924.3924 lula’ah loo-law-aw’ from the same as 3883; a loop:–loop.
Did you ever buy one of those big rolls of wrapping paper at Costco and start to cut it and discover there is another beautiful color on the other side. Think about folding that paper over and seeing the other side, or unwrapping a piece of taffy candy and seeing the loop loop of candy…Well, sorry that is the way I think.
For your consideration:
Gen. 1:5 …and the darkness He called night
Gen. 1:14…Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night
Gen. 1:16…the lesser light to rule the night
Gen. 1:18…to rule over the day and over the night.
Gen. 8:22…While the earth remaineth, seed time and harvest, and cold, and heat, and summer and winter and day and night shall not cease

Here are some Hebrew words and meanings for night
H2822…darkness, dark, obscurity, H3885..lodge, murmur,…the night, abide, remain, tarry, lodge in, continue, dwell, endure, grudge, left, lie, variant

Remember the man from Seir came to the “watch” man. So we will look at “watch” in connection with night….the following was written by H. Porter found on

A division of night. The night was originally divided into three watches, ( Judges 7: 19) but later into 4, as we find in the New Testament (Mt. 14:25; Mr 6:48). We do not know the limits of the watches in the first division, but the middle watch probably began two hours before midnight and ended two hours after. The four fold division was according to the Roman system, each of which was a fourth part of the night.

“Watch” is also the guard placed on watch (mishmar, Ne 4:9) [this is one of my favorite portions to study by the way].
kustodia, from Latin custodia, , Mt. 27:65,66; 28:11). It sometimes refers to the act of watching, as in 2 Ki. 11:6,7(mishmereth); note the word guard in this portion of scripture; Luke 2:8(phulake).

“watch” is also figuratively, as in Ps. 141:3 for restraint: “Set a watch, O Yahweh before my mouth (shomrah)

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Lu. 2:8 Strongs G3571…1) night, 2) metaph. the time when work ceases: a) the time of death; b) the time for deeds of sin and shame;
c) the time of moral stupidity and darkness; d) the time when the weary and also the drunken give themselves up to slumber. [can you see the evolution of meaning I was talking about above,by the way c is my favorite.]

Please take a little time out to read all of these portions of scripture and ask the Lord to expand your thoughts. Especially read the entire 4th chapter of Nehemiah for context and your meditation.
Vs. 23..neither I nor my brothers nor my men nor the guards with me took off our clothes; each had his weapon even when he went for water. Tell me what did the guard do while he was on duty?

We must be on guard at all times..see the good, bad and ugly as it were. We need to discern which portion of the night watch is coming on us.

By studying Cain we can get a little clue about some of the things that are creating night. If we took the time to continue following the life of Cain we see he was sent into exile. And his descendants fell into complete degradation. If he would only have taken care of the sin in his life and brought his offering things would have been different for him. But, he wanted things his way. So, if we look at his response to things we will find some of the signs of the what. I want you to know that is just the beginning. There are many “signs” of the night. There was an air of narcissism in Cain that is alive and well today in the entire world.

Dictionary for narcissism |ˈnärsəˌsizəm|
noun excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one’s physical appearance.• Psychology extreme selfishness, with a grandiose view of one’s own talents and a craving for admiration, as characterizing a personality type.• Psychoanalysis self-centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects, either in very young babies or as a feature of mental disorder. narcissism noun his emotional development was hindered by his mother’s narcissism: vanity, self-love, self-admiration, self-absorption, self-obsession, conceit, selfcenteredness, selfregard, egotism,egoism. [SELF-YUK]

I truly think that narcissism is at the root of most of the upheaval in the world today. It is the motor that drives the engine of the desire of individuals, nations, companies, and movements in the world today.

It is a big WHAT of the NIGHT. It is night! I know many of us can name the “what’s” of world affairs. Or at least I think we can. But my spirit tells me there are more “what’s” and more signs of both night and day.

Let’s stop now and you can meditate on what you have read. Please print this and re-read once in a while and ask the Lord for fresh revelation to you.

Please sign up for the email announcements because I am going to try to ratchet things up and do these blogs more often. Thanks for your encouraging comments in the past. Please feel free to invite your friends and family. We are not exclusive here. LOL
