Rom.13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Welcome, my friends. Please get your coffee and sit a spell, let’s just visit a while before we dig into some scriptures.

I have been conflicted this past 2 weeks or so about when to move on and when we have reached the saturation point on some of the pieces of this study.

In my Spirit I feel we are never at a saturation point until we all “get it” so to speak. I am so sure in my own spirit that we MUST know what time it is. Isn’t it frustrating when you don’t have a clock or a watch and you can’t figure out what time it is. If it is daytime we can figure approximate time by the position of the sun..but there is not enough light in the night sky to give us a hint. If there is not light to guide us, we are just “in the dark”.

One thing I am sure of is that the Lord hasn’t left us without information to help guide us and let us know where we are relative to time. We talked a bit about that last time, but here are a few more tidbits of information that I have gleaned from the many things I have been reading. For instance believe it or not nights are shorter than days on average due to two factors

Now, I don’t really understand all of the jargon but here is some of what I dug up:

The sun is not a point, but has an apparent size of about 32 arc minutes.
The atmosphere refracts sunlight so that some of it reaches the ground when the sun is below the horizon by about 34 arc minutes. The combination of these two factors means that light reaches the ground when the center of the sun is below the horizon by about 50 arc minutes. Without these effects, day and night would be the same length at the autumnal (autumn/fall) and vernal (spring) equinoxes, the moments when the sun passes over the equator. In reality, around the equinoxes the day is almost 14 minutes longer than the night at the equator, and even more towards the poles.
The summer and winter solstices mark the shortest and the longest night, respectively.
The closer a location is to either the North Pole or the South Pole, the larger the range of variation in the night’s length.

There was much more, but I will spare your eyes for reading something else. But this is something you can read and re-read and you will have a good idea of time. lol

I was also curious about what time of night is the darkest. My mom used to say “it’s always darkest before the dawn. That sounded profound to me. But, I googled it for myself:

When is night at it’s darkest? According to wiki.answers : The darkest part of night is exactly mid way between sunset and sunrise. This, of course, does not include the moons influence or other phenomenon which may make this time brighter in many instances.

That answer causes me to think I would need to be wide awake all night long and have a means of measuring darkness before I could answer this profound question. But, I know that spiritually I must never let my guard down, I must always be watching. Song of Solomon 5:2 I sleep, buy my heart is awake: [it is] the voice of my beloved.

In Psa. 139 David sang a song of praise to the Lord acknowledging His greatness. In verse 11 David says:
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me;

verse 12. Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light [are] both alike [to You].

Nothing is hidden from Him. Praise the Lord He sees through the darkness.

Remember in Isaiah the man from Seir asked the prophet “what of the night”. We are going to investigate the answer he was given very soon, but for now, I asked you to try to name the “what’s” of night…..there are so many if we only keep our spiritual eyes open and are vigilant in our watch
.
Think about the days of Noah when it was so bad that God repented that he even made man. The same God who loves us so much that He was willing and I would even say excited to send His only begotten Son into this world to be sin for you and for me.

Gen. 6:5-8 reminds us that the Lord abhors sin.
Verse 6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
Oh, the heart of our Father God! He who sent His sons to bear our griefs and carry our sorrows..He who said He was touched by the feeling of our infirmities. Grieved because of His own creation.

Please take this challenge and look around and determine “what time it is” spiritually in your own life, your families, your church, your state, your country, the world, and begin to pray that the Lord will give you an answer to those who come and ask you “what of the night”?

NKJV
Rom.13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.

The word knowing in verse 11 carries the meaning of understanding, perceiving with the eyes or the senses, strongs. G1492

That now is the time: strongs G2540 and Thayer’s Lexicon
1) due measure
2) a measure of time, a larger or smaller portion of time, hence:
a fixed and definite time, the time when things are brought to crisis, the decisive epoch waited for

High time to awake: time strongs G5610 to awake

Jamieson,Faucett & Brown 11. And that–rather, “And this [do]”
knowing the time, that now it is high time–literally, “the hour has already come.”
to awake out of sleep–of stupid, fatal indifference to eternal things.

New Living Translation reads this way:
This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

We will revisit this portion of scripture at a later time and continue through verse 14. But for now please give some thought and prayer to the call of the Spirit to His people, His watchmen to be vigilant and give warning and hope to those around each of us.

We are very close to one of my favorite celebrations of the year. I love Easter season because it is such a wonderful celebration. On the one hand very sad and on the other hand full of rejoicing and thanksgiving. Floyd and I have been watching some wonderful movies on GMC (I think that’s it) this week. Last night was one about Jeremiah, the weeping Prophet who is one my favorites. I read the book of Jeremiah over and over and over a few years back. I was so fascinated with the love and tenacity of that man of God who unashamedly wept for his nation and people. I identified with those tears shed for others and was encouraged that it was okay to cry for others. (I tend to be a bit of a cry baby) We also watched a movie of Esther last night another real person who faced major obstacles and danger to set her people free. There are more movies scheduled each night. We have already watched the Passion of Christ 2 times this week. My heart is wrecked each time we watch these movies and I always ask the Lord to make me more like Him and more willing to lay my life down for my family, friends, strangers, nation, world for His honor and glory.

My prayer for each of you is that you will have a wonderful celebration with others to commemorate the Resurrection of our precious Lord and Saviour. He has given His life that we can live and let our lives be a beacon in the night. We will move forward in this study and my prayer is that you won’t feel hopeless or helpless but will understand and know that “you have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this” and that you can have an answer of hope and life for others to answer the question of “watchman what of the night”. Oh yes, it is night…but oh my dear friends, the Lord lives and reigns and He will lead us and guide us with the Light of HIs Word.

Happy Easter everyone!!!

Love and blessings
Alice
